Bowen Therapy

Bowen Therapy, founded by Tom Bowen, is a unique hands-on therapy, now taught and practised worldwide. It involves a sequence of gentle rolling movements performed by the practitioner on specific areas of the body. These movements target muscles, tendons, ligaments, and nerves.

The key feature of Bowen Therapy is the combination of relaxing moves with rest periods in between. This approach allows the body to reset, repair, and rebalance itself, often continuing to do so for 3-7 days after the treatment. The technique is remarkably versatile and safe, suitable for individuals ranging from newborns to the elderly.

The treatment is administered through soft clothing. Each Bowen Therapy session ranges from 45 to 90 minutes and is carried out on a massage table, designed for comfort and relaxation.

How Does It Work?

Bowen Therapy effectively influences the nervous system, shifting it from the heightened sympathetic 'fight-or-flight' response to the calming parasympathetic 'relax and repair' state. This change is key in sparking the body's natural healing processes. The therapy targets not only the nervous system but also the fascia, the connective tissue enveloping muscles and organs. By applying gentle pressure and rolling motions on these areas, Bowen Therapy aids in releasing tension and promoting relaxation throughout the body.

During this essential recalibration phase, the therapist typically leaves the room, allowing the body an undisturbed environment to realign and adjust itself. This practice is integral to the process, helping the body return to a state of homeostasis, its natural and preferred state of balance. This approach not only enhances the immediate effectiveness of the therapy but also contributes to long-term health and well-being.

Who Is It For?

Bowen Therapy is renowned for its safety and gentleness, making it an ideal treatment for individuals across all age groups, from the delicate needs of newborns to the specific requirements of the elderly. Its non-invasive approach allows it to be applied universally, without the need for intense physical manipulation or invasive procedures. Clients of all ages have reported significant benefits from this therapy, often expressing surprise at the profound effectiveness of such a subtle and gentle technique. It is particularly adept at addressing a wide range of health issues, both acute and chronic, providing relief and aiding in recovery.

The versatility of Bowen Therapy has led to its growing recognition and acceptance within the medical community. It is seen as a valuable modality in complementing traditional medical treatments, offering substantial relief for a variety of conditions. Its broad applicability makes it a sought-after option for those seeking a holistic approach to health and wellness, providing a therapeutic experience that is both effective and nurturing.
